A snake is the one animal that is almost all pattern. Take away legs, fur and feathers and what remains is a single ribbon of scales, and every scale is a small cell waiting for a color. That is why snake coloring pages suit slow, careful coloring so well: you can run a gradient down the whole body, alternate two colors ring by ring, or give each scale its own shade and watch a pattern appear that was never drawn. The snakes here are friendly garden types with round eyes and easy smiles, set among flowers, water, stone and the occasional cozy corner of a house. Nothing on this page hisses.
The page holds two kinds of sheets, from simple cute snakes for younger kids to dense botanical scenes meant for adult coloring. Black-and-white pages are classic line art. Pages marked With Color Sample are our copy-coloring format: the top half is a finished color version, the bottom half is the same scene in clean outline, with a dashed line between them. Follow the sample, change every color, or cut along the dashed line and keep the sample next to you as a reference. Use the Show me buttons above the grid to see one kind or both. Click the picture – the PDF opens, sized for US Letter and fits A4. On a black-and-white printer the color sample comes out as a gray study, still readable as a guide.
Two tips for scales. Decide the pattern before you touch the body – stripes, saddles, diamonds or spots – then color the pattern first and fill the base color around it, so the shapes stay crisp. For a glossy look, leave a thin highlight along the spine uncolored and shade the belly a step darker than the sides. The backgrounds are where you can relax: softly blended skies, water in two or three blues, and petals in the brightest colors in the box.

Fun Things to Make with These Coloring Pages
- Rainbow scale challenge: color the peony snake (sheet 11) with a different hue on every few scales, so the body reads as one long gradient from head to tail.
- Metallic steampunk: use gold, copper and silver gel pens on the gears, clock and mechanical butterfly (sheet 14) and keep the snake in deep green for contrast.
- Night sky watercolor: wash the sky of the telescope sheet (sheet 2) in navy and violet, then dot the stars back in with white gel pen once dry.
- Symmetry test: color one half of the twin-snake mandala (sheet 19) first, then try to match it exactly on the other side.
- Bookmark corners: color the tea sheet (sheet 5) and the cobra (sheet 15), cut a tall strip from each and laminate for bookmarks.
- Underwater glow: shade the coral reef (sheet 16) in coral, turquoise and lavender, and leave the pearl white with a single gray shadow.
- Wall banner: print sheets 10, 11 and 18 on cardstock, color them in one shared palette and string them on twine as a botanical banner.
- Greeting card: fold cardstock in half, glue the bicycle sheet (sheet 6) on the front and write your own line under "Good Things Grow Here."
