Sharks are far better company on paper than their reputation suggests, and these shark coloring pages offer two very different ways to meet them. The black-and-white sheets are cartoon sharks with busy underwater lives, drawn in bold, friendly lines. The color-sample sheets are portraits of real species in their real homes: the whale shark and the basking shark, the great white and the shortfin mako, great hammerheads and bonnetheads, tiger, blue, nurse and reef sharks, plus the odd bottom dwellers most people have never heard of, from the walking epaulette shark to the fringed wobbegong. The cartoons suit younger colorers; the realistic pages reward an adult with time and sharp pencils.
Use the Show me buttons above the grid to see All, Black & White only, or With Color Sample. On a color-sample sheet the finished picture sits on top, the same drawing waits as line art below, and a dotted line runs between them, so you can keep the guide beside you or cut it off. Click any picture and its PDF opens – US Letter, fits A4. A black-and-white printer turns the sample gray, which still works as a map of light and dark. The PDF book button gathers the black-and-white sheets into a single file.
Real sharks are easier to color than they look once you know the trick most of them use: countershading. An open-water shark is dark on the back and pale underneath, so from above it fades into the deep and from below it disappears against the bright surface. Lay the darkest tone along the top, let it soften down the sides and leave the belly nearly white. Spots and stripes go on last, over the base color – or around it, when the spots are white. The backgrounds are where you can play: layer two or three blues for the water, let a few streaks of bare paper stand in for sunlight, and keep your boldest oranges and pinks for the coral.

- Turn the whale shark parade into a garland: color it, cut out the shark and the flag-waving friends, punch holes and string them across a party table.
- Use the shark teacher classroom sheet as a first-day-of-school activity: kids color the fish students and write their own names on the coral desks.
- Laminate the underwater festival page and hand out dry-erase markers for a reusable "find and count the sharks" game.

- Print the bedtime story whale shark on cardstock, color it and fold it into a bookmark with the baby sharks peeking over the top.
- Copy the lighthouse repair page twice, color both, cut the second into six to eight pieces and use it as a matching puzzle against the whole first sheet.
