Monkeys are the one animal that never sits still for the artist, which is exactly why they make such good coloring pages: a curled tail, a pair of long arms and a face that is always in the middle of a thought give every page a built-in pose. These monkey coloring pages draw the same animal through very different pencils. There are realistic monkeys, kawaii babies, cartoon monkeys at work and at play, and a whole series of pattern pages – mandala, art nouveau, art deco, stained glass, folk art, paper cut, woodcut and low-poly – where the monkey is as much a design as a creature. Every monkey here is an original Papaya Ink character, drawn for this page and nowhere else.
Click any picture and its PDF opens in a new tab, ready to print on US Letter paper – it fits A4 just as well. The button above the pictures downloads the whole collection as one PDF book, so you can print the set in one go. The simple cartoon pages are quick wins for kids and for a short coloring break; the pattern pages are the slow ones, built for an evening with fine-tip pens and a good lamp.
A few things that help with monkeys. Real monkey fur is rarely one flat brown: lay down a warm tan, then shade the back and the top of the head darker and leave the belly and the inside of the arms pale, and the animal starts to look round. Faces and hands are usually a different color from the fur – pink, gray or nearly black – and that contrast alone makes a page read as finished. On the pattern pages, forget fur entirely and treat each enclosed shape as a tile: pick three or four colors, repeat them in a loop, and the whole animal turns into a mosaic.

Fun Things to Make with These Coloring Pages
- Jungle mobile – color several monkeys, cut them out and glue each to a strip of card. Hang them from a bent twig with thread at different lengths so they swing when the window is open.
- Style study – pick one pattern page and one cartoon page, color both with the same four colors, and pin them side by side. It is the quickest way to see how much line style changes a drawing.
- Window glass – color a stained-glass or art deco page with colored pencils, rub the back lightly with cooking oil on a cotton ball, let it dry and tape it to a sunny window. The paper turns translucent and the colors light up.
- Bookmark strip – cut a finished page into tall vertical strips so a tail or a branch runs the full length, laminate with clear tape and punch a hole at the top for a ribbon.
- Greeting card – fold a sheet of heavy card in half and glue a colored monkey to the front. A hammock, a waving monkey or a baby with fruit makes a good birthday or get-well card without a single word of text.
- Mandala meditation – color a mandala or folk-art page slowly, one ring or one row at a time, with music on. Set a timer for twenty minutes and stop when it rings, finished or not.
- Paper bag puppet – color a cartoon monkey, cut out the head and glue it to the bottom flap of a paper lunch bag, with the body on the bag below. The flap becomes a mouth that opens and closes.
- Mosaic frame – color a low-poly or stained-glass page with scraps: tear colored magazine pages into pieces and glue one into each shape instead of coloring it. Frame the result in a cheap wooden frame.
