A duck is the most forgiving bird you can draw: a round body, a long neck, a flat bill and a pair of orange feet, and the rest is decoration. That is exactly why these duck coloring pages wander so far in style. The same bird appears as a realistic mallard with every feather in place, as a duckling with big cartoon eyes, as a mandala, a stained-glass window, an Art Nouveau swirl, a folk-art pattern full of tulips, a paper-cut landscape, and a few that leave the pond entirely. Most of the pages keep the duck close to water – ponds, reeds, willows and water lilies – because that is where ducks look like themselves, and water gives you long, calm areas to color between the detailed parts.
Every page is a free printable. Click the picture and the PDF opens in a new tab, sized for US Letter and fitting A4 without any scaling. Thick, clean outlines print well on an ordinary home printer, and the simpler pages are easy enough for small children while the ornamental and realistic ones are meant for adults who like to sit with a page for an evening.
A few notes on color. Real mallard drakes have a bottle-green head, a thin white collar and a chestnut chest; hens are brown, speckled and far more subtle, so a brown-on-brown palette with one bright blue speculum feather on the wing looks surprisingly right. Ducklings are warm yellow with a touch of orange on bill and feet. Water reads best when you leave the ripple lines white and color only the space between them, and the ornamental pages do not need natural colors at all – treat them like textiles and pick any palette you like.

Fun Things to Make with These Coloring Pages
- Pond diorama – color a page, cut out the duck, and stand it in a shoebox lined with a blue sheet of paper; add paper reeds and lily pads from scraps, and you have a tabletop pond.
- Floating ducks – color and cut out several ducks, glue each onto a thin piece of cork or a bottle cap, and race them in the bathtub or a bowl of water.
- Rubber duck gift tag – shrink a colored duck on a copier, cut it out, punch a hole in the corner and tie it to a bath-time present with yarn.
- Feather texture practice – on one of the realistic pages, color each feather lighter at the tip and darker at the base; it is the quickest way to learn how plumage reads on paper.
- Stained-glass window – color one of the pattern-heavy pages with markers, rub the back with a cotton ball dipped in vegetable oil, let it dry, and tape it to a window so the light comes through.
- Duck family mobile – cut out a big duck and a few small ones from colored pages, punch a hole in each and hang them from a stick at different lengths so the family seems to follow her around the room.
- Duck count game – on a page with several ducks, ask a child to find and color every bird before touching the background; it keeps small colorists on the page longer.
- Spring card – fold a sheet of cardstock in half, glue a colored duck on the front and add a tulip or two cut from another page; it makes a quick Easter or new-baby card.
