Most dinosaur coloring pages show you a dinosaur. These tell you which one. Each sheet in this collection is one species, drawn realistically in its best pose, with the name set underneath in big open block letters that are part of the coloring. A finished page works like a poster: the animal, and the word for it.
Under every picture there is a short note – how to say the name, what it means, whether the animal ate meat or plants, how long it grew, and where and when it lived. Kids and adults fall for dinosaurs equally hard, and that is perfectly normal. Whoever already knows every name can check our homework; everyone else can finally tell the famous ones apart. The collection covers the big meat-eaters, the long-necked giants, horned and armored plant-eaters, duck-bills and feathered raptors, and new species are added as they are drawn.
The drawings follow the fossils, feathers on the raptors included. Color is a different story: for nearly every dinosaur nobody knows what it was, so there is no wrong choice. Borrow from living animals – the muted greens and browns of crocodiles and lizards, or the louder patterns of birds, which are living dinosaurs themselves – or make up your own. The scales and skin folds are drawn finely enough for the sheets to work as dinosaur coloring pages for adults: sharp colored pencils suit the detail, and markers give the name letters a flat, bold fill.
All of these realistic dinosaur coloring pages with names are free to print. Click any picture to open its PDF, then print or save it; each sheet is sized for US Letter and fits A4 as well. The Download All button gives you the whole collection as one PDF book.

Fun Things to Make with These Coloring Pages
- Name quiz – fold the strip with the name behind the page, hold up the picture and let the other player name the dinosaur, then unfold to check. It gets harder than it sounds once the famous ones are used up.
- Timeline wall – hang finished pages along a hallway in the order the animals lived, oldest first, using the dates in the notes. Leave real gaps: more time separates some of these animals from each other than separates the last of them from us.
- Sidewalk size check – take a tape measure and chalk outside, mark the length given for one dinosaur on the pavement, and lie down next to the line. Then try the biggest one on the page.
- Field guide – punch the finished pages and keep them in a binder. On the back of each, write what the note leaves out: a favorite fact, your color scheme, the museum where you saw the skeleton.
- Museum checklist – bring a few finished pages to a natural history museum and tick off each species when you find it. Compare your colors with the ones the museum artists chose.
- Living-animal palette – pick a bird, lizard or fish from a nature book and copy its colors and pattern onto a dinosaur. Stripes, spots, a bright throat – nobody can prove you wrong.
- Name banner – cut the name strips off spare copies, color the letters and string them across a wall. It makes a banner of the hardest words in the house.
- Party place mats – print one sheet per guest, set out pencils and let everyone choose a dinosaur. Slip the finished pages into clear sleeves and they wipe clean.
- Scale shading – color the whole animal with one light pencil, then go over the underside of each fold and scale row with a darker shade of the same color. The skin starts to look rounded with very little effort.
